Sourcing
We believe that without a healthy planet, there can be no healthy future. The fashion industry doesn’t always have the cleanest reputation when it comes to environmental impact. At Maristani London this is something we take into account throughout our business, so that our brand is as environmentally and ethically responsible as we can be. From the fabrics and materials we source to create our items, the longevity of the pieces we create, through to our methods of production and energy/resource management.
We believe strongly that as a responsible British brand we should source all components and materials we require to create our items as locally as possible. We are able to source cashmere and wool from mills within the UK and utilise this in our tailored items, and for silk, laces and other compositions we look no further than our close European neighbours, whose mills have great expertise in producing high quality fashion fabrics sustainably. Many mills are long standing family businesses like ourselves, who take pride in what they create with minimum adverse impact on the environment.
We have forged relationships with these mills and suppliers who create not only the most expertly designed, high quality cloths but who maintain sustainable and eco friendly methods of production to create them. From the way component fibres are traceably sourced, treated and dyed, the machinery and energy used for production and how their employees are treated.
Therefore we know when we offer our ranges of fabric to you to choose form for your piece they will be making the maximum impact on your one of a kind outfit but minimum impact on our planet.
Production
Within our own studios, we follow practices which create minimum wastage when it comes to fabric and materials, as each item is made to order, we only ever cut fabric when an order is confirmed, wastage is kept to a minimum with efficient costings created by our experienced cutters.
We are proud to say we do not contribute to landfill as we do not produce ready stock items which may or may not be sold; therefore we never have old stock to dispose of.
Any scraps of material created during production are collected by local schools and colleges to help enable the next generation of fashion designers to get a taste for textiles, we also work with a textiles recycling company who processes smaller scraps for remanufacturing into new materials.
